BIOGRAPHY

Radio for Skeletons is an instrumental band from the Stuttgart area in Germany. Their music does without vocals and takes its time: pieces between five and ten minutes, rooted in jazz, krautrock and post-rock, somewhere between wide-open space and a sound that carries rather than pushes.

The band formed around guitarist and producer Michael Pietzsch – the driving force who initiates, records and produces the pieces; they are written together, all four members share the writing credits. Before that he was guitarist, composer and producer of the Ludwigsburg artist collective Stur und Dumm – electronic beats with acoustic and oriental instruments, including “Nomad” (2019) –, co-designed its Silent Lab Studios and was the driving force behind “Screaming Silence”, a campaign raising awareness of depression and suicide prevention (2020). He left to pursue his own project. From the Stuttgart studio scene came Carlo Wagner on keyboards – music teacher and son of Tübingen drummer Uli Wagner of Black Cat Bone – and Timm Schreiner on drums, who previously played with the Farmer Boys, Tarja and Good Men Gone Bad. The band played its first concert on 3 December 2023 at Stuttgart’s jazz club Kiste, with Klaus Graf, lead alto saxophonist of the SWR Big Band, as a guest.

In October 2025 the line-up was completed by London bassist Yaron Stavi – member of Gilad Atzmon’s Orient House Ensemble and Richard Galliano’s New Musette Quartet, with work for Robert Wyatt, Phil Manzanera and Nigel Kennedy, and heard on David Gilmour’s “Rattle That Lock”.
